East Hall is one of the dormitories for the college and is said to be haunted. Student assistants have reported being followed by unknown footsteps when on their rounds after midnight. People have also claimed that the lights will suddenly turn off in halls and you can feel someone brush against you. You can also hear whispering voices in the hallway. The third floor new bathroom is haunted by a male ghost, though it is a girls` bathroom. Also assorted residents have reported seeing a girl dressed in white in their rooms and others have had small items in their rooms rearranged daily.

I lived in east for 2 semesters, there is some pretty strange stuff that goes down in there. most things i experienced were in the Bathroom on the 2nd floor "new" bathroom that is on corner of the building...with all the windows and the HEAVY wooden door close, with no one else in the bathroom with you, you will hear and see the stall doors open and close themselves. sent chills down my spine on numerous late nights.

i moved into east hall third floor as a freshman this year, and my cabinet door continued to open itself at random times of the day. i would be sitting in my dorm, and the cabinet door would just swing open. the window would be closed, no breeze to blow it open. the guy who lives across the hall from me had the idea of ductaping a piece of heavy cardboard against the door, and my roommate and i have come back to see the cardboard bent back, as if by force, and the cabinet door would be slightly open again. i would post the picture i took, but i can't figure out how to.

I moved into Cannon this year as a freshman, but I have a lot of friends who live in East as well as myself spending countless nights over there. A friend of mine had her back facing the stairwell on the subfloor (the one that comes out on the basement level) and she was wearing her bookbag and felt someone pull her backwards. Like she legit stumbled backwards because something had pulled her, but when she looked, there wasn't anything there. A little less paranormal, but I left my favorite pair of sunglasses in a friend of mine's room and her and her roommate turned the entire room upside down and have never found them since. No one has seen them.

I have survived my first semester in East Hall as a freshman this year. I heard numerous stories before moving in, and my friends and I decided to investigate it ourselves. For the first week we were there, we went to the basement almost every night and taunted whatever was down there by yelling at it like they do on those ghost hunter shows. Although i didn't experience anything originally, I continued to hear people in my hall talk about stuff turning itself on on its own and other "electrical" problems. After a couple weeks, I was going down to the basement with a group of around 6 people at around 1am and we peered down the hallway that is used for classrooms and offices during the day but has the door locked at night. When I looked through the window on the door, i saw a dark shadow figure floating towards me at slow pace and reach its arm out at me as if it were trying to grab me. I didn't say a word but stood in amazement. a couple seconds after this the guy next to me said "Dude did you just see that arm." I ran out the emergency exit and have not been down there since. While sitting here writing this story my iphone headphones sped up the song and the volume was all out of wack. I have gone to my computer speakers out of fear haha...but anyways, whatever is down there doesnt want to be bothered. That night it made a statement to me and i took its advice and i hope you do too...
With love, Mike.

I saw lots of crazy sh!t during my two years in East Hall in the late 80s. Was probably due to all the weed, shrooms, and acid. Good times!

OK, this is not App State, but I was a student in the late 80s early 90s and there were reports of ghost activity in the house that held the Tijuana Fats Mexican restaurant on main st in Blowing Rock.

I am author Michael Renegar. I attended App. 19871992, and lived and worked in East. I am a 30 year veteran ghost researcher. The basement suicide story in East is a myth... Never Happened!!!
Despite the school's denial, IT IS A FACT... On the afternoon of Thursday, September 29, 1977, Lacey Dean Everitt, called Dean, a 17 yer old freshman, who skipped his senior year at Smith High in Greensboro, shot and killed himself in he corner room of 1st New Wing. It was the room wit windows facing Lovill Res. Hall, and also US 321... His ghost as been seen ever since.

Another fact.. On April 30, 1979, a young woman who lived in East died in a house off campus. The CoD was tainted msd... Die to an agreement wit family still in the Boone area, I will identify her only as Jenny. More tan 30 eyewitnesses have identified Jenny from photo line ups as the girl ghost seen throughout East, including the basement bathroom...

There are likely others. The Music Dept. (before it became the School Of Music) was once in IG Greer. Music students were housed next door in East. Thus, the IG Greer ghost, known variously as Dave or Michael, most likely lived in East... email: ghostfind1@gmail.com https://www.facebook.com/easthallghosts/

Fellow Ghost Hunters

Our ghost hunting equipment...

We receive many questions from fellow Ghost Hunters concerning the technology that we use. Some have asked about EMF meters, IR thermometers and etc. We do not use such devices in our investigations typically. Namely, you cannot use such information as evidence. Theories yes, but not solid evidence. We attempt to prove/disprove the existance of ghosts using die hard proof.

Our main focus is the evidence that can only be collected from sight and sound. Feelings are important but naturally they are too easily influenced by surroundings, atmosphere and the etc, so they do not account for much here.

Digital Cameras (from SLR’s to point and click), Digital Audio Recorders (multiple models), Night Vision Camcorders (HD based systems) DVR, and more. All these tools and more assist us in our investrigations of haunted locations in North Carolina as we search for ghosts, spirits, and other paranormal oddities.
